Over £150k has been awarded by Wakefield Council through the Community Investment Gateway to support universal youth work for young people in the Wakefield district.

The Open Access Youth Provision Grant from Wakefield Council supports universal youth work, which provides safe, welcoming spaces for young people aged 10 to 17 (up to 25 for those with SEND) to spend time, build relationships, develop skills, and access trusted adults outside of school and home.

Open access youth work is voluntary, universal provision where young people choose to attend, can join or leave freely, and are not required to meet assessed thresholds or be referred.

These grants are for the delivery of open access youth provision, including:

  • Open access youth clubs (centre-based or community-based)

  • Detached and outreach youth work linked to open access provision

  • Evening and weekend provision

  • Youth voice and co-production embedded within delivery

  • SEND-inclusive open access delivery

  • Provision aligned to the NYA Youth Work Curriculum

  • Delivery in areas most in need

Organisations set to benefit from this funding include:

  • UNEF

  • Rycroft Leisure

  • Featherstone Rovers

  • iAspire2

  • Frontside

  • The Youth Association

  • Tigers Trust/Castleford Tigers Foundation

  • St George's

  • The Well

  • Enabling Youth and Motorcross

  • Neurohive

  • iSpace5

  • Next Gen

  • The Old Quarry Adventure Playground

The Open Access Youth Provision Grant is funded by Wakefield Council and funneled through using the Community Investment Gateway, a partnership approach developed locally to channel funding and other capacity building support to the VCSE sector. Read more about what's been funded.
